The Swamp

Out of the swamp of self-pity

Feet on firm ground

Looking around

I see your blessings surround me

I see your hand of mercy

But it’s easy to slide back in

With one backward glance

Wallow in the mud again

Forget what you’ve told me

Savouring the pain

But you never heave a sigh

Never turn your back

Never label me ‘too hard’

This one just needs a little more love

A little more grace

She’ll come round.

  1. After reading several posts, I wanted to comment on your lovely journey. We all carry around thorns from our past. It is up to us to focus on the fragrance of the rose, knowing that the thorn is part of the flower. The title of your blog is a beautiful and daily reminder.

    • Thank you for your thoughtful comment. That is a good analogy. God is teaching me something new and it seems to take a while to learn new habits, in this case to focus on His blessings rather than what I would like to be different. I’ve been getting discouraged because it’s such a battle right now, but with practice it will become second nature.
